Castor or Carapate, what are the differences? What benefits?

These two vegetable oils come from the same seeds with fabulous properties, but are distinguished by their benefits and uses.

What is its origin ?

The Castor fruit is covered with green or red spines depending on maturity. As it ripens, the shell dries and opens revealing 3 seeds rich in oil.

Carapate or “Black Castor” oil is obtained from this same Castor fruit, recognizable by its prickles.

What is the difference between Carapate oil and Castor oil?

The technique used to obtain Carapate oil is artisanal, manual and ancestral, it is passed down from mother to daughter in Madagascar.

The oil is extracted not by cold pressing, but by a process that involves roasting and then boiling the seeds in water, then recovering the supernatant oil.

During this process, ashes mix with the oil, not seen as impurities but as an asset because they help open the hair scales and facilitate better absorption of nutrients into the hair fiber.

What are their benefits?

  • Castor oil :
Castor oil owes its many virtues to its richness in vitamin E, minerals and essential fatty acids. Ricinoleic acid promotes the growth of nails, eyelashes and hair.

  • Carapate oil :
This vegetable oil is ideal for curly and frizzy hair. Thanks to the fatty acids it possesses such as ricinoleic acid, it helps nourish, protect and coat the hair fiber.

What are their characteristics ?

  • Castor oil : it restores strength to your hair, eyelashes and nails and promotes their growth. This vegetable oil is also effective for sensitive and irritated skin, which it softens and repairs.
  • Carapate oil : is ideal for frizzy, curly and extremely dry hair. Widely used to promote hair growth and prevent split ends. It protects them from external aggression and promotes growth. Its antibacterial properties cleanse dry or irritated scalps.
